This lens carries on the performance of the prior model with a new optical design that controls chromatic aberration. An 11-blade circular aperture provides further enhancement, while precisely controlled spherical aberration works with XA extreme aspherical elements to minimize onion-ring bokeh.
2 XD extreme dynamic linear motors and high-speed control give the lens AF speed that is up to 3x faster than the previous model. Moving subject tracking is improved by as much as 7x, allowing reliable capture even when using extremely narrow depth of field at F1.4.
Extreme aspherical elements, refined optics, extreme dynamic linear motors and a compact circular aperture unit pack superb large-aperture performance into a barrel that measures just 3-3/8 inch x 4-1/4 inch and weighs 642 g. That’s about 13% less volume and 20% less mass for outstanding agility.
Customizable focus hold buttons and an AF/MF switch offer flexible operability. The FE 85 mm F1.4 GM II accepts 77 mm threaded filters. Dust and moisture resistant design ensures reliability in challenging outdoor conditions, Fluorine coating on the front element effectively repels contaminants.
G Master series lenses take imaging and expression to previously unattainable levels with a stunning blend of extremely high-resolution and softly dissolving background bokeh. [1] Extreme aspherical lens XA lens [2] ED extra-low dispersion glass
MTF Modulation Transfer Function describes how well a lens can reproduce fine details, measured as the degree of contrast achieved between finely spaced lines.
